The projectile is aimed right at the monkey, that is held up by an electromagnet, at its current position. Once the ball is shot, the electromagnetic will be shut off, dropping the monkey. Both the projectile and the monkey experience the same vertical acceleration. This results in a collision between the projectile and monkey before they hit the ground.
