One end of a meter stick is attached to a vertical rod while the other end is suspended from a horizontal string; the other end of this string is attached to a digital force meter. As the position of a weight suspended from the meter stick is varied, the force exerted by the string on the force meter changes in accordance with the conditions for static equilibrium of a rigid body.
