Rubbing the acrylic sheet with the animal fur places negative charges on the sheet. When the conductive plate is placed onto the sheet we’ll have an induced positive charge on the bottom surface of the plate and a negative charge on the top of the plate. Placing a finger on the top plate will ground the negative charges on the top leaving the plate with a net positive charge. This positive charge can be seen using the electroscope.
